Sunday Ride on the Dirty Nine...

Kelly and the Dirty Nine taking a break at the Minisink Hotel
just out past the Delaware Water Gap

Took the Dirty Nine out for a ride this past Sunday. Put 130 miles on it "two up". Road along the Delaware River and through the Delaware Water Gap. Hit some nice twisty mountain roads and several watering holes along the way....Great day for a ride! The Dirty Nine performed flawlessly with just enough smoke and oil spewing forth...it was a real crowd pleaser at the "Biker Bars"

1947 U - Going back into Service...

Got a wild hair to put the 47 U back on the road...been a while

The loose pipe drove me crazy for years...

Hopefully no more back fires...

Replaced the stolen (by me) chain guard...

Flat Track Knucklehead - Mag and Trans Spacer

Older Morris Mag?

Cleaned up the points and it sparks up nicely...

Crude mounting tab...

Removable base so I can get it in without grinding anything
or removing a head...or what have you...I hope...

Trimmed the 5th spacer to fit...will flat black it...

I decided to go with a slide in vertical mag rather than spending a boat load of cash on a front mounted one. What the hell, it'll serve the same purpose with less $$ and less work. Hopefully this old Mag will do the trick. Not sure of the brand. It has a Morris sticker on the cap but it looks like there was a metal tag on the body that is gone. I'll have to ask Desh...We'll see how it installs into the Knucklehead motor I'm using. The only mag experience I have is the Wico in my WLDR and that has been trouble free forever.
I also trimmed the 5th spacer for the trans and will shoot it flat black to match the others. Not spending time Parkerizing or any of that... just functional...

Surprise package from Dr. Sprocket!

Hhhhmmm...

The contents...a jumbo sized bottle of Yuenging Lager
and a Dixon T shirt!

Putting things in perspective!

As I arrived home yesterday there was a strange and wondrous package awaiting me....I checked the return address and it was from none other than Dr. Sprocket (Rich Ostrander)...of the West Coast...
Now about a month ago, the good Dr. contacted me out of the blue via email and requested I send him labels from a Yuengling bottle and no other explanation other than..."If you would be so kind as to send me a "neck" label from a bottle of Yuengling Lager I promise to send you something I think will supplement your cribs decor."
And supplement my crib's decor it has!
Thanks Rich for the Jumbo sized Yuengling (and the Dixon T shirt)! It will now be in a place of honor amongst my collection! (or maybe I'll regularly fill it and use it as a dispenser of "Life giving Lager")...
Thanks again Doc!!!

Flat Track Knucklehead - Trans and Bars

Semi perm trans install...need to modify the 5th spacer
The oil tank clearance is sweet!

Suitable for hanging...a little paint on some green bars

Installed the steering damper and plate, etc.
so you can't see the "Ted fit" of the bearing conversion
see previous 3 part posts on that fiasco...(45 to 74 Conversion)

Silhouette

Well, slow progress but progress just the same...after the perm install of the TT oil tank and fender I went to work on the trans. My mock up used a different trans and this one will require the 5th spacer to be shaved a bit. I guess there's more meat on the kicker bolt boss on this tranny. I opted for a later kicker shaft so I can kick start the bike and toss the kicker arm and pedal off to the side (less racing weight!).
I've been going back and forth on handlebar set ups....Flanders risers, Pan bars, later cheap bars, springer bars, etc. I decided to try these Servi-car bars mainly because they had already been modified for a snap throttle. They may be a little high and wide but we'll see how they feel.
