Wauseon 2012 - Part Five - Some of the Bikes

Scott's 1946 Knuckle Hydra

A random Pan

A display of  Dave Sarafan's reproduction racing parts

Another cool random Pan

I could feel the love coming off this WR

Sweet Piece!

A little extra fuel doesn't hurt...

Sportster Dragster

Side Note: The only Sportster I ever owned was a Sand Dragster with an orange frame...oh and a 45 Magnum which is now at Wheels Through Time (but that doesn't count)...

Had to get one more...

Line up at Carl Olsen's spot

There were a multitude of cool old bikes at Wauseon. Again, I did not do them justice with my photos. I captured a few on the cell phone. Of particular interest is Scott's '46 Knuckle Hydra. I met Scott at Denton NC this year. We hung out and with Matt McManus (on his Knuck Enduro) went for a ride into town on three old crusty Knuckles. Matt came to the realization that the three of us each have a Hydra-Knuckle. I haven't had mine out in a couple of years but I would love to get the three of them together for a ride at Denton next year. I realized I didn't get even one picture of Scott's Knuckle at that meet. Well I was glad to capture a few at Wauseon.
The WR you see above had all the cool shit, man what a bike...I should have spent more time with it but there was soooo much to see out there.
I usually dump my load of pics in one or two posts but I figured I'd categorize them and just oooooze them out....
More pictures to come....

Wauseon 2012 - Part Four - SEXI FLXI's

Gene Baron's Old FLXI from NY Now owned by Mike Lange

Another of Gene Baron's old Two Cams

FROM THE PAST (1984) BELOW
Picture of Gene Baron's FLXI and my White Knuckle 1984

Gene Baron's FLXI 1984 Upstate NY

Three FLXI's showed up to race at Wauseon this year. One form Mike Lange, one from Walksler's and I'm not sure who owned the Indian. Mike Lang's was previously owned by Gene Baron from Long Island NY.
The last time I saw that sidecar rig was in the summer of 1984 at the Electric City Riders AMCA meet in Upstate NY. Gene and I were racing around the track (me on my White Knuckle) see the two picture's above.
Interesting side note: Mike Lange told me that Gene wanted his name off the sidecar when he sold it to Mike. Mike, of course, wanted to keep Gene's name on the bike. The only way Gene would eventually agree to keep his name on the sidecar was when Mike told him he would put the original owner, Ralph Kelly and Mike Lange on as well and in the order in which they owned the FLXI.
That FLXI is great and brought back fond memories. If only I had my White Knuckle done in time I could have reenacted the old photo...
More Wauseon pictures to come.

Wauseon - Part Three - A Little Swap Meet Action

Scott's and my '46 Knuckles

The swap meet was great and I did not do it justice by taking a lot of parts pictures. I actually forgot my camera and had to use my cell phone exclusively. I also only bought one part...a cut and welded rear fender...too busy socializin' I guess.
More Pictures to come....

Wauseon Ohio - Part Two - Todd's Load...

Check out the bars on this '47 Knuckle!

Homemade "One Off" Rubber Mounts

Now that's a Sportster I could handle ownin'

The sweet rear rack on the '47 Knuckle

This is one super cool Knuckle!

More motel parking lot action (no not that kind)...This was a load Todd brought in from who know's where.
The '47 Knuckle is the "Cat's Ass" with the "one off" bars and rear rack! Also a sweet pan and that '62 race Sportster. He had another trailer full of chopped pan's and more cool bikes in the vans. He was loaded for bear....
More to come on Wauseon...

Wauseon Ohio 2012 - Part One - Liz

"White Knuckled" blasting down Route 80 in Ohio...

Liz working on her '72 Shovel ignition...

I love these utility vehicles

Check out the "Pull Backs"!

All fixed up and time for a test ride (I think she likes orange)

Carl's Trusty '39 EL ridden in from South Dakota via the Milwaukee Knucklehead Reunion

Wauseon 2012 - I loaded up the van and headed out to Wauseon last Wednesday at the crack of dawn. I arrived at the old Arrow Head Motel at about 2:30 PM and saw that Carl Olsen had just arrived on his '39 EL fresh from the Knucklehead reunion in Milwaukee WI. I kicked back on the porch with Rich from Jersey (who arrived the previous day) and a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken and several lagers. As the day went on the motel started to fill up with folks that were going to the meet. That's where I met Liz who rode her '72 Shovelhead up from Florida. I think she said she was going to or coming from a Shovelhead reunion in the Mid West somewhere.
The bike had been running a bit rough and she began trouble shooting. Anyone else out there carry extra fly weight springs? She does...I lent a hand by holding a screwdriver in the timing slot and she got things straight on her end. She kicked the bike over and was off for a test ride. When she got back I asked how it was running. She answered "Not perfect... but good enough". From what I hear she rides that bike all across the country...
Just when I start getting down on the way "motorcycling" has gone, with the wanna be "HOG" members dressing the part and shit like that, I run into someone like Liz and it restores my faith in this lifestyle....
It was an honor to meet you Liz and I'll see you out there somewhere...

More to come on Wauseon...

One of these things is not like the others...
