Bad Ass Knuckle Drag Bike...

Sweet...

Last weekend I tripped out to Ohio to visit my good friend Jerry Franz (Hillclimber and son of Larry Franz Sr. National Champion Hillclimber). Here's a reminder:  http://knucklebuster1939.blogspot.com/2011/07/hill-cimbers-history-larry-franzs-last.html or just hit "Labels" - "Hillclimber" at the right of the Blog for all of it....
While at Jerry's I got myself a van load of birthday presents (more on that later). After spending the night and going to breakfast, Jerry insisted I stop in and see his dad's OHV Hillclimber which now hangs from the ceiling at South East Harley (just SE of Cleveland Ohio). It didn't take much insisting. Kelly and I headed over to SE. The place has a few cool old bikes and great pictures on the wall. I had the great fortune of meeting Paul Meyer Sr. (owner and racer in his day, now in his 80's?). Of course what I came to see was hanging over the parts counter area. WOW! I have many pictures of this bike and the motor, but in person it was amazing. I wanted to get a ladder and climb up for a hands on inspection!
This motor spent a few seasons in my bike over the years. Below is a pic of the bike I have when Larry Sr. was running the OHV in it. I need to give this motor it's own post some time...I have a lot of good info and pictures on it.

More to come...

I topped off a great weekend with the Gasket Goons Hot Rod Hustle on Sunday! I hadn't been on the '46 Knuckle since before Wauseon. I tossed in a battery and oil and off we went. The old girl ran flawlessly as usual. Kelly and I got some breakfast and headed across the Delaware River to Pattenburg New Jersey, home of the Gasket Goons (Jersey Chapter). The weather was right on, the ride over to Jersey was nice (except the helmet part) and the Gasket Goons party was great! They have an incredible club house and grounds. Josh and the Goons worked their asses off to put on a great event.

Give Me a Brake...please?

So I'm out screaming down some winding country road at night, going way faster then the speed limit...I round the last bend and there's the stop sign and the intersection of a main road. I hit the rear brake and nothing! I squash my front brake lever to the bar and nothing! I dump the shifter down into first and while squashing the front brake lever and dragging my feet, stop just in time...Now this has happened to me before and felt like a loss of brake clevis...It was pitch black, I road another half mile and stopped where there was some light at a quarry entrance to see which clevis was missing. It was the one at the back of the pedal rod. I checked my pockets and found a bungee cord that I keep to strap my leather to the handlebars when applicable...I slipped the metal hook through the clevis and headed home...
BTW, I replaced all the clevis pins, washers and cotter pins some time ago with new ones so I don't know why it left me...
Oh well ...all in a night's ride...
