Toys (and stuff) in the Attic...

This was a very tough year to be a biker in NJ...I never got so many tickets or was splayed across a Plymouth Fury hood as much as I was in the spring and summer of  '82...usually at gun point...

I saved stuff I thought may be interesting in the future...

Damn...I better read this Exclusive!

1980 Easyriders Calendar

Drawings...

Scared Straight '77 Rahway State Prison...

Can't remember if I was givin' or receivin' on this one...

Aaaahhh the 70's...

My old Zippo!

Bought a battery from B&D in '84...6v and they still used the -47 part number on the receipt.

Oops...

Models

I guess I should finally finish this up...

I was diggin' through the attic and found a box that tumbled over...it said Jeff's Stuff...a treasure trove of my own memorabilia...of course I was derailed for the night digging through every old card, magazine, paper, etc. 70's and early 80's...here is some of it...
I do remember that Spring of 1982...costly...many a harrowing situation with angry Law Enforcement on the sides of lonely highways in the we hours of the morning...That's the year I learned to say "Yes Officer" the hard way...character building...

It's The Time Of The Season...For Throwin' Chains...

Chain toss

Prepping for the master link....

This is a dirty job on a clean bike...

...never mind the "Dirty Nine"

Road service vehicle

Ready for the road again...

After a great Saturday on the road I figured I'd do it again yesterday. Out on the "Dirty Nine" again...we were cruising around up in "The Haycock" where legend has it, there is a group of Albino Cannibal's that attack you if you park on an old covered bridge and blow your horn at midnight...I'm not kidding...check it out...

Anyway we just rolled outta The Haycock and onto a semi-main road when I hit fourth and threw my fuckin' chain...we were right at the entrance to an ancient farm so we could get off the two lane. As I walked back to fetch what was left of my chain, I heard motorcycles, lots of them. A run of some kind began to blow past me as I stood there chain in hand...many wavers...no stoppers. (Not that they would even know what a master link was judging by what I saw). Then in the other direction a Shovelhead Super Glide went by...turned around and stopped. "Need a hand?"..."Yeah, you don't happen to have a master link do yuh?"... It turns out the guy lived a couple miles down the road and ran home for a master link and a rag (figuring on the filth coming off the Knuckle I guess). I had the chain prepped by the time he got back and popped the link on in 2 minutes...back down the road we went...I was thinking of Bill Lockett the day before and how good fortune seems to follow these old bikes around...hell, if it had happened a couple miles earlier the Albino Cannibals of Ghost Mountain could have got me!

Bikes and Blues Festival - Yesterday

Gary Fisher brought out some memorabilia

Gary Nixon Trophy

Stumbled across Bill Lockett's '50 Indian Broke Down on the side of the road

He fixed his brake linkage and was back on the road...

See Ya Bill...by the way he's 84 years old!

Merc at the bar we stopped at for dinner

Admiring the Merc...disaster was only minutes away...

It was a perfect day in PA yesterday. Kelly and I fired up the "Dirty Nine" and hit the road for the Bikes and Blues Festival. There were great bikes and great tunes. I ran into "Bolt-On" and a bunch of folks from the Neshaminy Chapter of the AMCA. We decided to head down to Apple Jacks for a beer. Hung out outside at Apple Jacks for a while and all went our separate ways.
Kelly and I were cruising along a country road when I spotted a red 1950 Indian with sidecar precariously parked on a sharp bend. We stopped to lend a hand...Turns out it was Bill Lockett fixing his brake clevis with a bolt. Bill is a loooong time motorcyclist and at 84 years old still kicks, rides and fixes his old bikes. He told us that a few miles back he had lost the chain off the bike and had just finished fixing that, only to have the cotter pin pop on his brakes while careening down hill into this hard left. As you can see from the pic above someone had recently taken out the guard rail in the same spot! He fixed it, refused help kicking and got on his way...
The fun didn't end there. We stopped at an ice cream place and a bride and groom in full wedding regalia pulled in in a '65 Mustang all hot rodded up...they were soon followed by the entire wedding party...WTF?
We left there and cruised to the lake and over to a great Bar for dinner. The place has an outdoor bar where folks were getting completely crazed...great time...until one of the "merry makers" hooked his rear crash bar onto the rear bumper of this restored 194? Mercury pulling out of the parking lot!!!!! The car was scratched and the bumper pulled out...ouch! They handled it and folks went about there business without intervention from the authorities...It was a great day!
