'46 Knucklehead Trans - Done and Ready for Re-Install...

It killed me to clean it but it'll "gunk up" soon enough...I did opt for the later main drive gear (with seal) so I could keep oil in it.

The shifter lever shaft and bushing were wiped out...which made for some sloppy shifting. The kicker shaft bushing was also totally spent...a little more than usual...

After cleaning the trans I could see the casting numbers...1946 case E 6 (May 1946) and kicker cover B 6 (Feb 1946)!

She's been waiting patiently...
let's see if I can make her whole again today

Blizzard Ridin'...'52 Servi-Car

It's a great night for the 1952 Servi-Car!!! Out fuckin' around the bar parking lot with bald 60 year old Goodyear tires. A buddy shot some I-PhoneVideo...
I blew my fuckin' headlight bulb again!!!! And my friggin' rear brakes don't work either...oh, and my exhaust blew apart...and I realized today I have a head gasket leak in the rear cylinder...and I obviously didn't let it warm up...
I think I'll duct tape a Mag lite to the handle bars and head back out...

Chic...RIP (the motor blew to bits recently)

Parts of Chic's old pan motor...

Went to the Neshaminy Valley Chapter Winter Dinner on Saturday. It was held at Gary's shop...a great place to look at cool shit and drink beer...I probably shoulda taken pictures of the people there, not to mention the exotic cars...but I didn't...I also didn't do all the bikes justice but here's a sampling...

Electra Glide in Blue... Flathead Stunt Double!

John Evergreen (Robert Blake) and partner "Zipper"
on their '72 Shovelhead Electra Glides

When Zipper's bike crashes it turns into a late 30's UL
in a '58 - '64 swing arm frame!

Early UL motor with smooth cam cover!

Check out the other side...

Weird...

I was kicking back tonight and popped "Electra Glide in Blue" on the tube (On Demand)...I'd only seen the closing scene before and figured I'd watch it from start to finish. As I watched the film I noticed that the bikes the two main characters were riding would change from '72 Electra Glides with front disc brakes (the movie came out in 1973) to drum brake pre '69 Electra Glides. I'm guessing Pre-69 because the drums where on the left and  '69 thru '71 had the front drum on the right...no big deal, in the line up at the beginning of the movie they showed a mix of drum and disc brake machines.
Well, at about 1 hour and 19 minutes in, Robert Blake and his partner are chasing some innocent kids on motorcycles when Blake kicks the front wheel of his partner's bike to stop him from shooting one of the kids. The bike crashes and flips...I had to do a double take...I couldn't believe it...Did that Electra Glide turn into a UL??? I hit rewind and pause 20 times trying to get a good picture...Sure enough the Electra Glide changed into a late 30's UL motor (flat cam cover) in a '58 - '64 Duo Glide frame!

'46 Knuckle Trans Time...

Start...

Assess the mess...

Pop up on the "lift"

Nice...

Even nicer...

Off with the inner...

Gooey...Yet Gritty

Unbolt the plate from the frame...

Had to spray some WD-40 on the bolts...
not for rust...just so I could find 'em

Wiggle and yank out the primary side...

And there you have it...

Proper packaging...

...Finished

My shifting on the '46 Knuckle was gettin' sloppy. The shifter lever shaft was really loose in the lid and the trans required some finesse to get into gear. This becomes more critical when drag racing and flat tracking...missin' that gear will cost you the race...
So, while I had the clutch off and what not, I decided to pull the trans and give it a "go through". I really hate getting rid of all that well earned gunk and dirt but fuck, the things gotta work right and I'll have plenty of opportunity to get 'er gunked up again!
I'm gonna put the 16 back on the rear and the 18 with  the 4.50 x 18 tire back on the front. It's also time to get all the street gear back on...lights, horn, etc. I miss tearing this thing up on the road!

T.R.O.G. Mystery of the Stolen H-D Jersey... Solved

At the Jefferson meet in October, I purchased two great Harley-Davidson Racing Jerseys that had been made by a member of the chapter. Why two? Cause I figured I'd fuck one up and it was a limited run... Perfect, due to the fact that The Race of Gentlemen in Wildwood was only a day away! A bunch of other guys that were also gonna race saw me wearing the Jersey around Jefferson and bought a bunch.
Well, when I got to Wildwood to race I copped an attitude or something (blurry) and decided not to where the Jersey...I had it on the handlebars of my 45 and was running the Knuckle...well to make a long story short, when I got home from the race I realized the Jersey was missing and figured someone stole it off the 45 while I was racing or drinking or whatevering...Sucks!
Fast forward to this morning...I'm on the phone discussing details for the 2014 TROG with Mel and mentioned that my Jersey was stolen at the last TROG. He said "Fuck I know who has it." Well, it turns out that in some incoherent fumbling, I left the Jersey hanging on a fence..After all was said and done with the race on Sunday, Scott Toepfer (who was in town from California photographing the event and hanging with the Oilers) found it and told Mel, who said "I don't know? keep it" or something to that affect.
I emailed Scott and told him I was glad it wasn't stolen and that it was a gift (I do have another one)...Scott sent me back a pic of him wearing the Jersey beating the piss out of a 45 in some type of dirt event on the West Coast...check out the pic above...
It looks like the Jersey is in good hands! and all was right with the word....

'41 Indian "Bob Job" Beginnings...

The makings...1941 Chief

Strip it and Rip it...

A '35 front on the rear...Cut...

Bracketry...

Cut and bend to fit braces...

Possible use of the cut off piece...

Joe Oz and Motorcycle Mike are working on bobbing Joe's 41 Chief. I was with Joe many years back when he acquired this bike at an auction. Now it will be bobbed and run on the beach among other places...
They started with stripping off the original fender and then cut a 1935 Indian front fender for the rear...
More to come...
