1957 Pan Linkert Troubles...

Time to drop the bowl...

Yum! What's that in there?

Rotted piece of the spring...

Time to look for a fresh spring and do some cleanin'

Swollen float, barely moved at all...
you can see it's rubbin' the walls

New Rubber Ducky float installed...and adjusted slightly off center(to the left) and 1/4 inch from the top when closed (turned upside down)

Dug up a good used spring...

Main Nozzle...

Using a plastic spray can extension as a guide to line up the main nozzle hole in the venturi and carb body. It got misaligned after I dropped the main nozzle out.

I align it with the plastic extension and then slide the nozzle up over the extension so that it's inside the nozzle and through the venturi hole.

Then I use a bent piece of stiff coated wire (house wire) to grab the nozzle and keep it from dropping out while I fuck with the spring and bowl.

Need more fingers!

OK the bowl is secure...bottom bracket installed

Notice the cool mid 80's mod to the carb support to allow the rubber line to pass through it...that combined with the glass filter right behind it between the cylinders was done to ward off the dreaded Vapor Lock...

Ready to roll...

So the '57 Pan kept overflowing the bowl. It was getting worse and worse. The carb hasn't been apart for at least 25 years so I knew for sure it had an old type float in it. I dropped the bowl and the float was swollen and rubbing the sides, it barely moved. On top of that the spring that holds the main nozzle was rotted and broken...not to mention the crap in the bottom of the bowl.
Cleaned it out, replaced the spring and installed a Rubber Ducky float. All is good now for another 25 years!
